Foundations, geotechnical coordination and site practice

Share questions about foundation modelling, geotechnical interfaces, construction coordination, quality and engineering practice.

Describe the interface clearly

Foundation engineering discussions often cross the boundary between structural and geotechnical models. Identify which information comes from the ground investigation, which assumptions come from the structural model, and which questions still need agreement between the disciplines.

Keep project evidence understandable

Explain the proposed foundation system, the source of the soil or support assumptions and the behaviour you are investigating. An anonymised sketch and a clear statement of the available information are more useful than a disconnected screenshot. Site observations should be dated and distinguished from interpretations that still need review.

Turn experience into useful questions

Construction sequence, tolerances, inspection records, reinforcement coordination and changes on site are all relevant to engineering practice. Share what changed, how it was communicated and which decision needs review. Remove personal and client details before uploading documents, and give other contributors enough context to understand the question.

Questions to bring to the community

  • How do you record structural and geotechnical assumptions in one review?
  • Which site information should accompany a foundation modelling question?
  • How do you trace a construction change back into the design records?
